With continuous AF the results are more varied though; a significant amount of the shots on 5D mk III were quite off and while 5D mk IV seems to do somewhat better, it's still not exactly a reliable combination. We did an image comparison here a few years ago and the 7D Mark II definitely had less chroma noise than my 1D Mark IV in regular noise reduction setting. They looked the same with images I had shot in the 1D Mark IV in maximum noise reduction but that reduces the image buffer to something like three images.

The 7D Mark 2 has a shutter lag rating of 55 milliseconds, which is identical to the shutter lag on the 1D Mark 4. However, you can adjust the shutter lag on the 1D Mark 4 (C.Fn IV-14) to make it as short as 40 milliseconds (best achieved with lenses shot wide-open or near to it, and with lenses with large maximum apertures).

I would appreciate some tips and tricks for use of the Canon 1D Mark IV. I am a longtime 1D, 1 Mark IIn and most recently, 1D Mark II user.
